The Exoplanet Technology Laboratory or ET Lab is a research laboratory at Caltech led by Professor Dimitri Mawet and consisting of a group of undergraduate and graduate students, postdocs, engineers and staff from the Caltech Astronomy and Physics departments, Caltech Optical Observatories, as well as the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The goal of the ET Lab is to develop, deploy and scientifically exploit new instruments making use of innovative techniques and technologies for the detection and characterization of exoplanets. Our main science focus is high contrast imaging and spectroscopy of whole exoplanetary systems, including circumstellar disks, exoplanets of all kinds, and their mutual interaction during their formation and co-evolution. Beyond taking striking pictures, the technique yields the most detailed measurements of distant exoplanets, including their orbital motion, rotation periods, atmospheric composition, weather phenomena and surface features.
